Chikka on Linux (Ubuntu)
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is not installed by default in Ubuntu.
Java-based Chikka uses JRE so if you are using Ubuntu and want to use Chikka, here's my quick guide.
- Edit your /etc/apt/sources.list
$ sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list
- Add “
deb http://ubuntu.tower-net.de/ubuntu/ hoary java” from list of exisiting repositories. - Install sun-j2sdk1.5
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install sun-j2sdk1.5
- Create a soft link to your firefox plugin
$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-sun/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/
- Close firefox in case it is open (duh).
- Lauch now Javalite.
- Optionally, you can remove again the java repository you added in Step 2.
This guide basically installed JRE to your Firefox. From now on your Firefox can now handle not only Chikka but all java based applications.
